Careers at EHPA

At East Herrington Primary Academy, we believe that aspirations begin in primary school. Careers education has been an important focus for us for the past three years, helping our children to understand that their interests, talents and learning can open doors to an exciting and diverse range of future opportunities.

Our biannual Careers Week is an important part of this commitment. Following two highly successful Careers Weeks, we are already looking forward to our third Careers Week in 2027, when children will once again have opportunities to meet people from a wide variety of professions, discover different pathways and begin to imagine where their own futures might take them.

During 2026–2027, we are strengthening this work further by using the Gatsby Benchmarks to review and develop our careers provision and by working with North East Ambition as a school embedding careers practice. Careers education is not viewed as a stand-alone event. We have mapped meaningful opportunities for career awareness and encounters across all curriculum subjects, enabling children from the earliest years onwards to make connections between what they learn in school and how that knowledge and those skills are used in the wider world.

We want every child at EHPA to encounter careers that they may already recognise alongside possibilities they may never previously have considered. Through our curriculum, visitors, employers, role models and real-world experiences, we aim to challenge stereotypes, broaden horizons and help children recognise the many different routes their futures could take.

Ultimately, our ambition is simple: every child should leave EHPA curious about the world of work, confident in their own potential and with high aspirations for their future. We want our children to know that there is a world of opportunity waiting for them and that, with ambition, learning and perseverance, the sky is the limit.
