At East Herrington Primary Academy, we believe that preparing children for life in modern Britain is about much more than knowing the five fundamental British Values. It is about helping children understand them, experience them and live them.

We want every child to know that they belong, that their voice matters and that they have a responsibility to respect the rights, beliefs and identities of others.

Through our curriculum, assemblies, PHSRE, No Outsiders programme, pupil leadership and opportunities for social action, we help children develop into kind, respectful, informed and active citizens who are ready to contribute positively to their community and wider society.

Our British Values

Democracy
Children learn that their voice matters. They experience democracy through pupil leadership, voting, discussion, debate and opportunities to influence decisions about school life.

The Rule of Law
Children learn why rules and laws are important, how they protect people and the responsibilities we all have within our school and wider community.

Individual Liberty
We teach children to make informed choices, express their views respectfully, develop independence and understand their rights while respecting the rights of others.

Mutual Respect
Respect is central to our school culture. Children learn to value others, listen to different viewpoints and understand that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Through RE, PHSRE, No Outsiders, assemblies and the wider curriculum, children encounter different faiths, beliefs, cultures and perspectives and learn to engage respectfully with people whose experiences may differ from their own.

Equality, Diversity & Protected Characteristics

At East Herrington, everyone belongs.

We teach children that our differences are part of what makes our community special. Through age-appropriate learning, children develop an understanding of equality, diversity and the protected characteristics, recognising that nobody should experience prejudice or discrimination because of who they are. Our children encounter different families, cultures, religions, identities, abilities and experiences through carefully chosen books, assemblies, curriculum opportunities and discussion. We want them to leave East Herrington able to recognise stereotypes, challenge prejudice appropriately, respect difference and stand alongside others when something is unfair.

A New Chapter for Our School


We are delighted to announce that, from 1st September 2026, our school will officially become part of Tyne and Wear Learning Trust.


This is an exciting new chapter for our school community. As a member of the Trust, we will be part of a family of six schools, working collaboratively to provide the very best educational opportunities and outcomes for our children and young people.


The Trust is led by Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Ashley Emmerson, and brings together schools with a shared commitment to high-quality education, strong leadership and positive opportunities for every pupil.


Our school will continue to retain its individual identity and strong sense of community, while benefiting from the collaboration, expertise and shared resources that being part of a wider Trust provides.


We look forward to working closely with our new Trust colleagues, families and the wider community as we begin this exciting journey together.
